Distribution Transformer

Distribution transformer installed at customer place with CT/PT and metering unit. Transformer power consumption and load connected on transformer is being measured by CT/PT connected at HT side of transformer.

Consumer will have to pay electricity charges for Load consumed and transformer inherent losses. Transformer no load/losses are constant and it is being charged to customer only. Hence installing high efficient low losses transformer is needed at site to reduce electricity bills.

Government has made it mandatory that every distribution transformer 11KV/33KV classes up to 2500KVA must be ISI marked.

ISI mark is awarded to manufacturers based on new specifications introduced by Government that is IS: 1180 Part I/2014 which replaced old specifications of IS: 2026

As per government rules three levels of transformer specifications are introduced and implemented throughout India which are

IS: 1180 – part I /2014 – Level-1

IS: 1180 – Part I / 2014 – Level-2

IS: 1180 – Part I / 2014 – Level-3

Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3 is having different losses mentioned in specifications. Level 3 is very high efficient transformer, Level-2 is moderdian losses transformer, Level-1 s high losses transformer.

Transformer main losses are :
  • Copper losses that is load losses
  • Core losses that is no load losses
